The Hawai`i Vocal Masterworks Festival
This unique annual event joins singers and instrumentalists from across the state for a week-long music festival. The objective of this program is to enhance our communal quality of life through advanced musical education, appreciation and performance of significant choral-orchestral masterworks.
Instrumental students are accepted into the Festival based on the recommendation of their private or school instructors, attesting to their ability to learn the large amount of music required in a short period of time. Community singers are accepted into the Festival Chorus following a brief audition with the Music Director, testing tone, clarity, and ability to read music.
Joining HVAE the week before performance, students rehearse with visiting musicians from the Honolulu Symphony. During these final intense evening rehearsals, we blend all musical and aesthetic elements to refine our combined performance to HVAE standards. The culmination of the Hawai'i Vocal Masterworks Festival is two grand live performances of the selected masterwork.
